OSSIDE.NET vs OSSIDE.COM
A few days ago, to my great surprise, I could no longer access the site or even the server with Filezilla. Bad thoughts immediately came to me, my dreaded time had come, I would have to use the devastating backups that I do periodically… I had regularly paid my annual fee.
I immediately wrote to technical support, truly an added value for this hosting (they respond in a few minutes at any time and day, including holidays, the other Italian one I use takes hours…) and they informed me that there is there was a .net domains price increase.
I would have had to pay extra or switch to .com for free (taking on the management of redirecting). Since the price had not been added to my annual expense, they would have written off the extra by charging it to my account, and it will be deducted in the next payment.
Why .net?
I don’t know why I chose .net in 2010, it was simply nice and I don’t remember if I had had .it as an option, but this allowed me at a later stage to be able to write in English and have a more international profile than only Italian.
I chose to pay the little extra (which will be recovered next year) and keep the .net also because I would have had no time now to take on the risks of redirecting to osside.com, it was an in or out, maybe I’ll think about it next year but I don’t think it’s an excessive expense.
Naturally I immediately thought about the scam and I did some research and found this:
https://www.webnic.cc/domain-names/understanding-net-domain-price-increase/: Wathsup: .NET price increase and update to Android 15 betaOn February 1st, 2024, Verisign is set to implement an 8% price increase for .NET domains Reasons Behind the Increase
Several factors contribute to registry price adjustments. As a responsible steward of the .NET domain, Verisign continually invests in infrastructure, security, and overall enhancements. These investments are vital for maintaining the integrity and reliability of .NET domains, ensuring optimal performance, and fortifying defences against evolving cybersecurity threats.
Furthermore, the domain industry operates within a competitive landscape, compelling registry operators like Verisign to align pricing strategies with market dynamics. Adjusting prices allows them to sustain high-quality services, invest in technological advancements, and uphold the resilience of the .NET domain.
So theoretically there would be an increase in security and service.
Android 15 beta on Pixel 8
I recently updated my Pixel 8 to Android 15 beta, 2.5 GB.
My main aim was to solve the battery and overheating problems and improve performance, however the stable version would be out soon and I could exit the beta program.
All very good except some problems with the software of my Mevo Start camera especially in the interface, the management of full screen layouts and the microphone with the app in the background.
Very annoying problems, I opened three tickets and somehow I can still use it but I hope they can fix them in the future. As for the new features of this new version, hundreds of people have already talked about it and it is useless for me to report the list too…
