unboxing/hardware/mouse
I had underestimated how important the mouse was for the Desktop experience, especially for GNOME Shell which makes intensive use of it to move between dynamic windows.
Dell Silent Mouse MS355 in addition to saving me space is what I was looking for, sober, silent and soft click, light and precise, it has greatly improved my Arch Linux GNOME experience.
It may seem incredible but I hadn’t changed my mouse for over 15 years. An old Microsoft USB mouse that was a memory, almost a talisman that I had been carrying around since I was in my previous family home.
In the meantime I changed PCs several times, assembled my new machines, changed monitors and keyboards but the mouse was always the same. Every now and then it have some problems, the wheel didn’t work well and in the end I decided to change.
Dell Quality Wireless Mouse
I was looking for a comfortable, robust and silent solution, nothing gaming mouse with hyperLEDs and super spatial keys. Space available in my desk is really small and a compact solution would not hurt.
I relied again on Dell, and I found a new mouse, Dell Silent Mouse MS355 model which has the characteristic of being silent and of the right size. Initially I did not want wireless solutions with batteries to replace and dongles to insert but I changed my mind also seeing yet another abandoned cable.
Precise, light & silence
Packaging is minimal and well-finished, in Dell style. USB bluetooth connector is housed in the body of the mouse and everything is marked with dedicated adhesive labels. The battery supplied is even a Duracell that should last for 35 months.
Installation is very simple, insert the battery with the + on the outside and connect the USB transmitter to the PC. After having brought the switch to ON, press the central button for 3 seconds to pair the mouse. On my Arch Linux with Kernel 6.11.9 everything worked immediately with the id:
Dell Computer Corp. Dell Secure Link Receiver
