Upates/Vivo/GNOME
This weeks I was distracted by the problem of the Google Maps Timeline unable to be activated on my Vivo X70 Pro Plus smartphone.
I have investigated dozens of forums and made attempts even to test improbable Chinese app-sandboxes also watching unlikely Indian videos.
Finally, I reported the problem to Vivo Global by providing detailed output, but I was sent back to Google Support. I wrote on Google Comunity Help where they replied that they have taken charge of the problem… we’ll see.
Is the Google Maps Timeline really essential?
There are many conflicting opinions on the Google Maps Timeline, undoubtedly it is not pleasant to be tracked while on the move, but in a world where we are constantly tracked also by cameras and mobile networks in my opinion it would be a losing fight. The Google Timeline will always remain a reminder of my present and future travels, preserving paths and memories of those days and I have always kept it active on my Nexus/Pixel smartphones
I think there are limitations in Chinese phones that block Google and force to device root, but even if there is a little hope of solving the problem I would like to try.
GNOME 42
In the meantime GNOME 42 has been officially released, I’m waiting for it to arrive on my Arch Linux in the next few days to test the touch screen and gestures on my Dell 7548.
I had uninstalled my experimental version because it was causing me problems with connected external devices and with Nautilus and I will finally be able to use a stable version.
Waiting for news I wish everyone a good start of spring !!

Hi did you find an answer to enable location history on Google maps for Vivo phones? I really want to buy the x fold plus but this very problem is holding me back. As mentioned in your post I use maps occasionally to check history of my travels and pictures takes etc.

Unfortunately it seems that it is not possible and I had to give up….
