GNOME shell extensions
It can happen that after a major GNOME update, especially adding external repositories to test new beta versions, all of our GNOME Shell extensions stop working (as in my GNOME 41 setup).
This is due to the new extension management but can be easily fix.
Of course, the best thing would be to wait for the author official update but it could take months, in these cases it is possible to try to make a manual change to get everything back as before.
How to re-enable the Shell extensions immediately after a GNOME update
- From Home, press Control + h keys to view hidden folders
- Open Shell extensions folder in .local/share/gnome-shell/extensions
- For each extension, edit metadata.json file by opening it or dragging it into a text editor.
- Change GNOME minimum required version after “shell-version” line
This modification is successful most of the time and is worth a try, good luck 😉
