Hardware/Videocard
After almost 7 years I decided to upgrade my GTX 1060 to adapt it to my Ryzen 7 5800X, with a new Nvidia GPU: MSI GeForce RTX™ 3070 VENTUS 2X 8G OC.
I upgraded also the RAM from 16 to 32 GB by purchasing one Corsair VENGEANCE RGB PRO DDR4 32 GB (2×16 GB) 3600 MHz C18 module kit.
I was doubtful whether to buy an ASUS TUF Gaming GeForce RTX 3060 Ti that matched my motherboard but I preferred to go up to the 3070 going beyond my budget. I kept the MSI brand again this time.
Double power supply
First of all I did a good cleaning of the components, there was really a lot of dust and I am quite lazy.
I suspect the GPU box had already been opened and will not leave a good rating on Amazon.
Installing was a bit traumatic because I foolishly didn’t notice that it required dual PCI Express power. PC did not start and after a few moments of panic I noticed the error and plugged the second connector, which is in a rather convenient position.
At the moment my biggest problem is the Corsair case, in the future I would like to take it more spacious, but unfortunately I lack the space on the desk, it would not be bad even also a liquid cooling in the future…
Soon, as usual, I will be selling the two used products on Ebay.
Real 4K GNOME Screencasts
With this new RTX ™ 3070 I should finally be able to screencast my Desktop in 4K without having to scale with OBS to 1080p and set NVENC as encoding.
I have already had the opportunity to test it on Second Life finally in 4K and now the limit is only in the internet connection. I’ll test it with some games later and with Kdenlive editing.
GNOME 43 has not yet been released officially in Arch Linux (I have removed the Fabian Bornschein repositories and i’m waiting… and waiting… )
In the meantime I have dedicated myself to a deep cleaning of my Mountain Bike as well as looking for mushrooms in the woods !!
